Taxes to be paid when buying a property

Before You buy any property in the Dominican Republic, You should have some information at hand.

1.-Try to find out if the person's name on the owner's certificate matches the seller's name.

2.-Have a lawyer or a realtor who can investigate if all documents are legal so that you don't face any problems in the
future.

3.-When You buy or purchase a property in the Dominican Republic, You have to pay the government a three
percent (3%) tax from the total amount you paid for the property.


4.-If the property you are buying costs over five million pesos (RD$5,000,000.00) then you have to pay one per cent
per year for the amount that exceeds the five million pesos. It means if you pay seven million pesos for a property,
you have to pay 3% of the total amount at the moment of the purchase plus 1% annually from the two million pesos.

5.-Verify that the person who is selling you the property has paid all due taxes at the moment of the transaction.

6.- If seller is married, then the spouse must sign documents as well.

7.- Description of property, price to be paid by buyer and payment terms, establish when property will be delivered by
seller.
